IF YOU HAD JUST ONE WORD TO SAY...WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Create a beautiful ceramic tile mosaic sign with a word that’s inspirational or powerful for you. It could be a name, a sentiment, a wish, something to remind yourself of every day …Your mosaic could beautify a special space indoors to inspire visitors to your home, hang in a child’s room, beautify your tablescape and double as a trivet, or be a perfect holiday gift made by your own hands. As the Turkish poet Yunus Emre says: “A single word can brighten the face”!
This beginning/intermediate level workshop will focus on small signs that use the key techniques, tools and materials for ceramic tile work. This two-part workshop will use a word and a font of your choice and enable you to either hang the piece or incorporate it into a larger indoor wall mosaic. Costume jewelry, bits of mirror and other baubles or memorabilia can be incorporated into the works. Finished pieces will be professional quality mosaics, fabricated for indoor locations. The workshop will be held at my mosaic art studio, in Upper Fells Point, Baltimore. Beverages and light snacks included.
Part 1: Saturday, November 6, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Choosing colors, creating a design, basic safety tips, use of tools for cutting and nipping; choosing materials, affixing your mosaic, indirect method of mosaic application.
Part 2: Sunday, November 7, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. (alternate date Nov. 21)
Choosing grout colors to accent and enhance your mosaic, grouting techniques and considerations, grouting process, sealing considerations.
